Sea storms and Gods rope
In Bible class today my teacher shared a story...
He described how some time ago in England a ship crashed into Lands End, (which is the most south-westerly point of England) and how a helicopter flew over the wreckage, and winched the survivors to safety.
What he said next really struck me:
When the lifebelt is lowered down from the helicopter and is tied round someone's waist, this is a crucial moment, because your destiny changes. Before the lifebelt came the persons destiny was linked to the ship...if the ship goes down, so do they. But the moment they are connected to the helicopter they are saved. If the ship goes down, they will not go down with it, and when the helicopter goes up, so will they.
Likewise my destiny is linked to Jesus, like me being tied to a rescue helicopter cable.
He rescues me from the sinking ship. Even though there may be storms all around me I am linked to Jesus.
Paul refers to this in his letters as being ‘in Christ’. It’s being linked to Jesus, tied to Him, in Him.
Even though the ship may be sinking and breaking up, it doesn’t matter because I’m ‘in Christ’, He’s got me on the end of a cord. Keeping me safe, and ready to pull me up out of the mess at any moment. HE IS IN CONTROL.
Yes, so there is darkness, and sea storms and all sorts of craziness going on….but the GREATER TRUTH is that I’m tied to Jesus in the midst of it all.
It's trusting Him that He will not let me go through something that is too much for me, and FOCUSING on the cable, the rope, the lifeline.
Greater than the circumstance, problem, or issue that I am facing…is the fact that I am tied to Christ.
That He’s got me. He’s got my back, He’s got me covered. He’s in control. He loves me.
IT’S AM AMAZING TRUTH. It’s so easy to focus on the sea storms and the fact that the ship is breaking up, and start freaking out that I’m gonna sink, and be battered and die.
But that’s not gonna happen. Why?… Because Im tied to Jesus by a lifeline.
It makes me think of the scarlet cord that Rahab hung out her window, which caused her to be saved…
“This is what you must do. When we invade your
land, tie this red cord to the window you let us down from. Get your father and mother,
your brothers, and all your father's family together in your house.”
Josiah 2:12
This is not me saying that I've got it all together. I'm writing this to encourage myself!
Thankyou Jesus
